Body & Rug Birds Much of the quality of your mount will depend on the condition of your bird. Take some time to evaluate your birds and choose the best for mounting. Select one in full plumage with no pinfeathers, broken feathers or bones. Once you have determined you have a prime bird, wipe any blood off the feathers with a towel and water. Take care not to ruffle or break feathers. Do not attempt to clean or skin your bird. Plug the throat and nasal passages with a small piece of cotton or paper towel to prevent any fluids from getting on the plumage. Place your bird in a plastic bag, tucking the head under a wing. If the bird's tail feathers do not fit in the bag do not bend them. Let the tail stick out of the bag and tie the bag loosely. Eliminating as much air as possible will help prevent freezer burn. Deliver your bird to Wildlife Studio as soon as possible. |
